- Attended Oldswinford Hospital School 1989 - 1996, Foster House.- Member of Old Foleyans' Committee 1999-2005. - Employed as a Senior Officer within a Local Government based Trade Union.I grew up around OSH from an early age, being the son of a teacher, (Mrs Maben Hartley, English, who at 85 years old is still going strong in retirement!), and my brother Mike was also a pupil and later a volunteer helper with many things; so OSH runs through my veins somewhat. I owe the school much. I left OSH in 1996, having been a pupil from 1989 in Stone House 1989-1992, then Foster House 1992-1996. I previously served on the Old Foleyans' Association Committee from 1999-2005, and unfortunately like so many of us had to sadly leave the thrilling excitement of it all to concentrate on building up my career, moving houses, getting married and raising our daughter. I work in local government as a trade union officer, having had a varied experience in administrative, business support and customer service engagement roles, as well as community volunteering.I am inspired about the clear historic successes and future potential benefits of there being a sustainable alumni association in the guise of the OFA for old pupils of OSH, 97 years after the OFA was formally founded. However, looking ahead to the next few years and towards the true opportunities of the 100th Anniversary, this is not just going to be achieved on its own, and the past achievements of the OFA never did just happen by the passing of time alone. It always did take and will require the continued hard work and passion of volunteers on the Committee to make good things happen in partnership with the current school community and dwindling OFA membership base.It will also take an ongoing willingness from the geographically spread OFA members to want to go on supporting an organisation that could, once again, become so much more than a fantastic archive website, a lively discussion page on Facebook and a sparsely attended OFA Dinner once every one or two years. If elected by you, I would attempt to do my part to work with Committee Members, you the grassroots OFA Members and the school to try and have another (and possible final!) go to build back up a group that could become once more a visible and welcomed Stakeholder in the life of OSH today, and grasp the opportunity to create a useful Network in order to meaningfully help former pupils (and where appropriate current pupils) with a range of life-long challenges.
